Hey,
I'm Steve.
Hello, I am Steve Berkley and I have two sons, a dog, and I live in Kentfield, California. I grew up in Texas, but have lived in the Bay Area of California for the past 30 years. Photography was not my original passion, rather it was music and computers. I am a classically trained pianist with a composition degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Masters in Electro-Acoustic Music from Dartmouth College. I taught myself to write computer software at age 11, and in college I started to use the computer creatively to help me write my music compositions. I just recently left my last job as CEO of the popular music software Auto-Tune, where I served for the past 7 years.
When I was growing up my brother had a film camera and used our shared bathroom as a darkroom. However, that was his hobby and I was busy learning to write software. Once photography went digital I became interested. My first "real" camera was a Nikon D50 I purchased as a Father's Day gift for myself to photograph my kids. About ten years ago, I got the photography "bug" and since then have invested a lot of time learning and going on photo tours to study with photographers I admire. I am primarily a landscape photographer, but I have done a good amount of fashion and portrait photography as well. I started doing serious deep-sky astrophotography a little over two years ago- I am fascinated by the technical requirements as well as the artistic possibilities. I post my images on social media and I also have some work showing at Crown Hair Salon up Petaluma. I use a Nikon Z8/Z9, ZWO astrophotography cameras with a few different telescopes, and a DJI Mavic Pro 3 drone.
